Florida Highway Patrol Participating in “Border to Border” Enforcement Detail on US 17

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. – Beginning today, the Florida Highway Patrol (FHP) will be participating in “Border to Border,” an enforcement effort across several states on US-17. The operation is in partnership with law enforcement agencies from Georgia, North Carolina, South Carolina, New York, Pennsylvania, Maryland and Virginia. Through June 11, law enforcement from each of the participating states will target dangerous driving behaviors such as speeding, following too close, distracted driving and improper lane changes, to reduce crashes on US-17.
“FHP is committed to making Florida’s highways safe for all motorists,” said Colonel Gene Spaulding, Director of the Florida Highway Patrol. “FHP reminds drivers that safe driving prevents crashes and saves lives. We encourage drivers to drive smart, drive safe and drive courteously.”
Preliminary data from January 1, 2017, to April 30, 2017, shows that there were 1,430 crashes along US-17 in Florida. Of those, FHP responded to and worked more than 58 percent. During this timeframe, FHP has also focused its presence on US-17 in specific locations for its Arrive Alive campaign. Troopers, in collaboration with our law enforcement partners, have patrolled 2,918 hours on US-17 in an effort to reduce traffic crashes and save lives. During the same time period last year, there were 1,488 crashes along US-17 and FHP worked more than 56 percent of those crashes.
